Reminder - Cell Phones at School

Reminder - cell phones that students bring to school are to be turned off and put away in a locker (all lockers have locks).  Students have been reminded about this - there is NO reason as to why they should have a phone out during the day. If a student does not follow this rule, the cell phone will be taken away and brought to the office until a parent/guardian can pick it up.  If a student needs to contact a parent/guardian during the day with a crucial message, we always allow them to do so.

Clan Fraser's Veterans Day Recognition

Friday was a wonderful day for Clan Fraser!  Students invited family members and family friends to come and speak about their experiences as a member of the military.  The students were so well-behaved while listening to what each Veteran had to say.  A special shout-out goes to Representative Don Marean who addressed the students as the key-note speaker.  It is so important to thank those and to remember those who have served, are our serving our country.

NWEA Testing - Note From Admin.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
At some point during the weeks of September 24 - October 19, your child will take a MAP Growth test from NWEA on a computer or tablet.  Students in Grade 1-8 are assessed in the fall, winter, and spring.  We give students these tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in Reading and Math.
Attached is a letter from Krista Poulin, Curriculum Coordinator with more NWEA testing information.
Thank you,

MESSAGE FROM BEHS ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

Dear Parent/Guardian:
Bonny Eagle has a long and storied athletic program. Our community support is second to none, and teams can attract large crowds. The multitude of enthusiastic fans can only be expected to become larger as the season progresses.  Along with the hopes of our team making it to post-season tournament play, many of us also share a deep concern regarding the supervision and safety for those students, fourteen and younger, who attend the games by themselves, without responsible adult supervision. We know that in these open, unstructured settings, young adolescents do not always make responsible decisions.
Watching younger spectators in a large crowd becomes very difficult when they lose interest in the game, drift away from the playing field, pass footballs in poorly lighted areas, or even choose to leave the grounds. While available rescue personnel are present to help everyone, it is critical to minimize the risk of avoidable accidents that occur on, or even beyond the sidelines, so they can be ready to focus their full attention to the injuries that might occur on the playing field.
Certainly, we encourage students from throughout the community to support our high school teams.  However, we do not want any student spectator needlessly injured. For this reason, we are requiring all students under the age of fourteen be under the direct supervision of a parent or responsible adult chaperone at all times during the contest.  We also will not be allowing students to toss balls, play running games or use skateboards, etc. during sporting events. Security personnel will be placed at entry points to ensure young children do not attend games unsupervised. This preventative measure will help ensure that all fans are safe while they enjoy the play-by-play action on the field.
Thank you for your cooperation in this important matter.
Eric Curtis, CAA
Athletic/Activities Director

Fraser Clan Veterans Day Recognition - Mark Your Calendars!

On Friday, November 9th, Clan Fraser will honor our Armed Forces.  If any of you have a connection to a currently serving, an inactive member, or a retired member of the Armed Forces, please ask them if they'd like to join us (10:00 -12:00).  More information will follow, but we'd like to have the student with the connection to the member of the military introduce the guest and then have the guest speak about why they joined the military and what their experiences were like.  They can dress in their uniform, if they'd like, and also bring in any medals, photos, or other memorabilia that they'd like to show.  Stirling Clan did this two years ago and it was a wonderful experience for all.
Please get the word out!
Thanks in advance!

Memo from the Office

Here is a memo from the BEMS office (it's getting real!):
Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians of BEMS students,
The phones, emails and facebook posts are abuzz and we wanted to take a moment to give you an update on what is happening with student schedules, supply lists, parent vue and student vue accounts.
Schedules:  The BEMS staff is still working on the student schedules for all grades.  If you hear that a student has seen their schedule, please know that that schedule is incorrect.  They were posted for a very brief moment at the beginning of the summer, but they were incorrect.  The schedule tab in parent vue or student vue is currently turned off and this is why you cannot see your child's schedule.  We know that the first day of school is next week and we promise, we are working very diligently to get these completed.  Once they are complete, we will post on our facebook page and our district webpage that they are ready for viewing.  IF they are not ready for the first day of school (we are extremely hopeful that they will be ready, but just in case), all students should know which clan they are in, (they were listed on their report card at the end of last year), so students should make their way to their clan and their teachers can direct your student to where they need to be for homeroom.
Supply Lists:  Grade 6 students received their supply list with their welcome letter at the beginning of August.  If your 6th grade child did not receive this, please call the office at 727-9227  and one can be sent to you.  All grades can access their clan supply lists by visiting our district webpage at www.bonnyeagle.org, under schools - select Bonny Eagle Middle School, on the left under quick links - select staff directory - scroll to the bottom of the page - select page 2 and all clans are listed on page two.  Select the clan your child is in and click on their webpage.
Parent Vue - all parents have an account with our Synergy system called Parent Vue.  If you have NEVER accessed your account please call the school at 727-9227 or email kaiken@bonnyeagle.org and the information on setting up your account will be sent to you.  If you have accessed your account before but cannot recall your username/password, please visit techhelp.bonnyeagle.org and ask our IT department to reset your username/password.  The IT department will then communicate directly with you when they have reset it for you.  The school cannot do this for you.
Student Vue - all students have an account with our Synergy system called Student Vue.  Grade 6 students will get their information within the first few days of school.  Grade 7 and Grade 8 students created their accounts while they were in school last year.  If they do not recall their password, they have the option of selecting "forgot my password".  If they have NEVER accessed their account please call the school at 727-9227 or email kaiken@bonnyeagle.org and the information on setting up their account will be sent to you.
School Calendar - First day of school for grade 6 is Wednesday, August 29th.  First day of school for grade 7 and grade 8 is Thursday, August 30th.  Our district school calendar can be found on our district website.

We hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and we will see you next week!

Supply Supplies

Hello, Clan Fraser Students and Parents!  While you're out shopping for school supplies, you may want to add to the "Clan Collection" . . . if you pick up any of these items, it would be greatly appreciated!  A box of tissues, a roll of paper towels, a container of wipes, antibacterial soap, boxes of snacks (granola bars, crackers, etc . . . (some students never have snacks; some students stay after for extra help and snacks are appreciated), pencils, black pens, notebook dividers, and so on.  It really does take a village to raise a child!  Thanks in advance for your support!

Meet Mrs. Dinino, Our Librarian!

Hi Incoming 8th Grade Students,

Most of you know me by now!  I am Mrs. Dinino and have been the librarian at Bonny Eagle Middle School for the past seven years.  I am always reading a young adult novel or work of nonfiction so that I can recommend these titles to you!

My teenage children think it is funny I am always reading YA novels, but to me, it makes perfect sense and I enjoy reading them.  Speaking of children, my daughter just graduated from high school this past June and my son is going to be a sophomore in high school.  My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary this summer. Wow, how time flies!

I can’t wait to hear all about your summer reading or what books you like and hope to read.  Enjoy the rest of your summer and see you soon in late August. Be sure to stop in the library to get a book, share a title with me, or get help with a research assignment.

See you soon,

Mrs. Dinino

Synergy Schedule - Don't Be Alarmed!

It appears that there are some "glitches" with Synergy and students' schedules.  I've had a few emails from concerned parents. Honestly, I checked it from my end - I had a lot of students in my homeroom who aren't even in Clan Fraser!  No worries - all will be taken care of and be all set for the school year.  I hope that everyone's summer is going well!
Please don't hesitate to send an email to me with a question or concern.

Meet Kimberlee Watson - Mrs. Norton's Student Teacher

Meet Miss Watson - she will be spending her Fall Semester at USM with Fraser Clan students as Mrs. Norton's student teacher.  Welcome, Miss Watson!

"I'm Kimberlee (Kimmi) Watson and I'm 24 years old. I'm the third generation of Watsons to be born and raised in Sanford, ME, but my mom is actually from The Bronx, NYC. I'm a proud cat lady and live with my two cats, Rocko and Roo. My family is big on everything Disney-related; I have been to Disney World 9 times and I have been a passenger on 3 Disney Cruises. I enjoy reading, writing, and vacationing with my boyfriend of 5 years. I am starting the final year of my second bachelor's degree and I plan to continue learning and taking classes in my field."

Meet Mrs. Norton - Fraser's Clan Leader and LA Teacher!

Welcome to Clan Fraser!  This will be my (gulp) 38th year of teaching, and . . . I still love my job!  I have taught 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and. . . now, 8th grade!  All of my years have been in MSAD 6, beginning at Edna Libby School, the year that it opened! I lived in Standish for 27 years and my own kids went through the system.  I now live in Gorham with my husband and adorable 12 year old golden retriever, Annie.  In my free time, I love to spend time with my family travel, cook, read, garden, go to my husband's softball games, run (I started doing this 4 years ago), and golf (I'm not good, but I'm trying!).  I also love attending the events with which my students are involved.  I am looking forward to running in Beach to Beacon this summer (it'll be my third time), climbing Katahdin in August, and training for the Army 10-Miler, which takes place in DC on Oct. 7th (it'll be my second time running it).  I am excited about my move to 8th grade and having some of my 7th graders from last year, plus getting to know my  new students and my new teammates!  Here's to an amazing school year!

Here's Mr. Christensen - Fraser's Social Studies Teacher!

My name is Joshua Christensen and I am Bonny Eagle through and through. My mother was a teacher in the district for nearly 40 years and my grandmother was a 40 plus year teacher in the South Portland area.  I graduated from BE in 2004 and after some time away at the University of Vermont getting my BA and Master's, I came home to find a teaching job and ended up back here, which has been awesome. I've taught in the Alternative Education program for the last six years and am excited about my new position here at BEMS.  Music is one of my passions and I play in a rock band that does shows all over Maine. You will likely hear me jamming to tunes with my team on a regular basis.

Meet Mrs. Schoenfeld - Fraser's Math Teacher!

I’ve been teaching middle school math for 11 years and I love it! I wasn’t always a math teacher. In my early career I was a computer chip designer. My husband and I moved from Massachusetts to Bridgton, Maine last year. I have a daughter who lives in Los Angeles and just changed careers from a fashion designer to a web designer. My son lives in Boston and is in finance.

My husband and I just got a black lab puppy named Ella and she is growing fast! We also have eight chickens and that is a new adventure for us. I love being outdoors and enjoy hiking, bicycling, motorcycle riding, skiing, snowmobiling, and gardening.

Meet Ms. Lund, Fraser's Science Teacher!

Ms. Lund grew up in Rockland, Maine and loves being near the coast. She went to college at the University of Rhode Island where she studied Biology and Anthropology.  The best part about college was studying abroad for three summers studying archaeology, culture, and forensic anthropology (think the show Bones). Traveling is a passion of hers. Whether it’s exploring different states or a different country, Ms. Lund is always excited to travel. This will be Ms. Lund’s second year at BEMS and she loves the positive climate of the school.  She currently lives in Portland with two roommates, and their two cats.
